Laser welding machine effect is very good in the field of thin plate welding , but due to improper operation or process is not perfect, the welding process of porosity often occurs.   1. Adopt nitrogen as a protective gas

The appearance of pores in the laser welding process is mainly due to inadequate protection measures. During the welding process, if nitrogen is used to assist the welding, nitrogen invades the molten pool from the outside, and the solubility of nitrogen in liquid iron is very different from the solubility of nitrogen in solid iron.Thus, since the solubility of nitrogen decreases with temperature in the metal cooling solidification process, when the molten pool metal cools to the point where it begins to crystallize, a large and sudden drop in solubility will occur. At this time, a large number of gas precipitation to form bubbles, if the bubble floating speed is less than the metal crystallization rate,pores generate.

  1. Adopt argon as a protective gas

The inside of the laser welded hole is in a state of unstable vibration, and the flow of the hole and the molten pool is very violent.The metal vapor inside the hole erupts outward cause a vapor vortex at the opening of the hole, which draws the protective gas to the bottom of the hole.As the small holes move forward, these protective gases will enter the molten pool in the form of bubbles.When using argon gas for auxiliary welding, due to the low solubility of argon gas but very fast laser welding cooling speed, the bubble is too late to escape and be left in the weld, so pores generate.

During laser welding processing, the laser welding machine needs to blow protective gas coaxially along the fiber to prevent oxidation of the weld or to prevent gas splashes from contaminating the lens when the material is dissolved. Most of the porosity is caused by improper use of shielding gases or operational errors during laser welding processing. The causes of porosity are slightly different for different shielding gases.
